Norma Aleandro is the Grande Dame of Argentine theater and cinema notonly because she was not content to have trodden the stage as early asthe the age of nine, she is still active in theater and cinema in 2011. Her last film to date, 'Daniel Burman' 's La suerte en tus manos (2012) is in pre-production), that issixty-six years later, but also because she has always broughtdistinction and nobility to her roles (Maria Callas in the play "MasterClass", the guilt-ridden foster mother in La historia oficial (1985) ). To say nothing of her courageouspolitical stance, her progressive views during the militarydictatorship in the late 70s forcing her to go into exile to Uruguay. Back in Argentina, she became known internationally following herpoignant role in La historia oficial (1985) and soon co-starredin a few Hollywood movies such as Gaby: A True Story (1987) and'James Ivory' 's The City of Your Final Destination (2009) .

Honored by many awards, Norma Aleandro is a key figure of theperforming arts of Argentina. .

  • In 1996 she was honored as "Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires" ("Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires").
  • Starred on stage as 'Maria Callas' in "Master Class" and won the "Maria Guerrero" award in 1996. The same year she was honored as Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires ("Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires").
  • Co-wrote one screenplay, "Los Herederos", and has published poetry and short stories.
  • She was quite up-front about her liberal views and during the late 1970s was exiled to Uruguay. Later she moved to Spain and did not return to Argentina until 1982 when the military junta fell.
  • Born to a theatrical family in Argentina, the daughter of actors María Luisa Robledo and Pedro Aleandro, she began treading the boards while still a child.
  • Distinguished Latino performer, playwright and director of the South American stage.
  • Is the first Argentinian actress ever to be nominated for an Academy Award.
