Began her career as a professional tennis player when she moved to theUSA in 1973. In 1976 she won the French Open Championship, her onlyGrand Slam title. However, following recurring injuries and loss ofform, she retired in 1985, and after a short hiatus began herbroadcasting career in Australia, before the BBC recognised herability. In 2000 she was awarded the MBE for services to tennis andbroadcasting.
